Unlocking the Future: Cultivating Tomorrow’s Legal Leaders Through Moot Courts

February 2024

The Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest, was represented for the 5th time at the highly prestigious Monroe E. Price Media Law Moot Court Competition organized by the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights at the University of Oxford. SIMION & BACIU was one of the sponsors of the dedicated team of students that participated in the regional Europe rounds of the 2023-2024 competition, which took place in person in Paris, France from 31 January to 2 February 2024.

We are committed to consistently contributing towards developing the next generation of legal professionals and promoting a culture of excellence and innovation. Additionally, we actively advocate on important issues that impact our society and shape our reality.

The two elements came together and flourished into our support of the team representing the Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest, on their recent participation in the Price Moot Court.

The journey of the team coached by Stefan Bogrea and comprised of Faculty of Law students Alexia Bejan, Radu Antal, Ioan Crut, Sabina Stafie, Eliza Ungureanu, and Cătălin Veliscu, did not lead, this time, to the international final round. Still, their story is a testament to principles we all uphold in our work: perseverance, dedication, and a desire for knowledge.

The highly reputable Price Moot Court, focusing on international media law, human rights law, freedom of expression and privacy, addresses crucial issues that shape our world today. In an age where media is present in every aspect of society and human rights are constantly scrutinized, it is essential to cultivate legal expertise in these areas.

As the organizers mention it, since 2008, “the annual Price Moot Court Competition challenges students to engage in comparative research of legal standards at the national, regional and international levels, and to develop their arguments (in written and oral forms) on cutting-edge questions in media and ICT law.

Our aims for offering our support?

–         promoting continuous learning and pushing boundaries

–         fostering an environment of innovation and intellectual curiosity among (aspiring) lawyers

–         contributing to the development of a more informed and socially responsible legal community

Participating in moot court competitions such as the prestigious Price Moot Court is not just about winning accolades but also about the invaluable experiences gained along the way. By expanding the horizons of future lawyers and encouraging them to pursue their passions fearlessly, we empower them to become tomorrow’s leaders. We take pride in supporting their endeavours and look forward to their continued growth and success.

As we reflect on the recent participation of the team in the Price Moot Court, we invite you to join us in celebrating their effort and recognizing the importance of such initiatives that undoubtedly inspire us all.
